It is the norm for a country to be represented in a foreign country when a historical ceremony is taking place. Kenya is a country that has an ambassadorial office in Washington DC. The Embassy has an ambassador; because the ambassador is too junior or not known or doesn’t drive limousines then politicians one, two and three came to represent Kenya during President Obama’s inauguration.
Kenyan politicians, most of them in the cabinet, claim they came to market Kenya during this ceremony and witness the inauguration. Diasporans are wondering what the Kenyan embassy in Washington is doing while it is supposed to market Kenyan in all sectors. The ambassador was given a ticket to represent Kenya during the inauguration ceremony while those politicians from Kenya had no tickets to the ceremony.
Once again the time of wasting tax payers’ money on dubious selfish journeys that are expensive had come. The hotels were expensive ranging from 1,000 dollars a night. The said politicians never attended the ceremony but watched from their hotel rooms which is equivalent to staying in Kenya and watching the ceremony on the TV screen with their constituents.
Kenyans, especially those in the US are bitterly complaining that these politicians came for refreshments not found in Kenya. They came to drink and visit their girlfriends whom they give large amounts of money at the tax payers’ expense. There was no reason why they left Kenya for the US under the cover of attending the inauguration. They were near the inauguration site but never were they allowed into the actual ceremony as each country was accorded one ticket for their representative and a guest.
They came to market Kenya- in the hotels-with beer? President Obama should have lifted any cough holding Kenyan name in the US. Kenya cannot be marketed by wasting money; Republican doctrines are not Democratic Party doctrines; Obama should have done it anyway without any consultation.
American politics holds that “Democrats build the economy, but Republicans destroy the economy”; what are the African governments doing to avoid misusing public funds on selfish leisure tours that they are marketing a country when the ambassador is there? This should never happen because Kenya has a career ambassador in the US who is the face of the government. Let your constituents know if you want to resign from politics and be appointed as ambassadors!
