Of course, when two bulls are fighting the grass suffers the most. Mungiki is an illegal sect why do some slum dwellers accept them? They killed two innocent police officers who were patrolling. The response was fire with fire. The innocent suffered, children going to school watched; do they care as they are used to slum life?
Mungiki is a terrible gang in Kenya and the Kenyan government is trying hard to contain these slum idlers. Police took control this day and everybody was asked to lie down and kiss the soil. The bodies of those suspects police killed were easily carried away by male residents in Mathare slum; whether they liked or not, it was a police state. Fanya saa hii: (Do it now).
The impression most of us are likely to get is that Africa is bad, but these are urban disadvantaged residents who are facing a harsh economic slow down and corruption as occasioned by Moi the administration. This gang Mungiki is an inherited gang by Kibaki administration from Mois KANU government which messed the economy by encouraging corruption.
Since police are few and overworked, they have no time to go to the soccer field and practice football (soccer). This material day was a day police used all necessary force. The reason being surging crime in the city under a cult which is outlawed. Crime is high in slums due to high levels of poverty, unemployment and drinking too much local brew.
The guns used for committing robbery and killing are acquired from unstable neighboring countries like Somalia and Sudan. Then those guns are sold on the black market or the owners rent those guns out for some money a day. Renters are trained first through toy guns before they are given actual guns. In most places thugs use AK-47s making it legitimate for police officers also to use assault weapons to counter these gangs.
Women were not spared either because they harbored these men at night. The police state this day tried to demolish tin houses. Most of you were not there, but these pictures can explain to you better. No court warrants were issued to search and there was no negotiations with police, going to court will make some wanted criminals aware and be on the run. K-9 unit was not left behind either as K-10 unit was ready to back them up if it ever existed.
Kenya employs both men and women in the police force; the pictures only show male police officers handling women instead of female police officers.
Mungiki charges residents of these slums 200 Ksh/= to use a toilet which the city should provide free yet residents dont have that money; they charge to connect electricity illegally services which Kenya power and lighting should offer; they illegally charge money to connect water which ministry of water and related companies should give. Also, they charge small businesses in their perimeter what they call protection fee which include Matatus (taxi, mini-buses, buses) etc.
Nairobi city center and other areas are clean and magnificent, this is a slum area dont be swayed by these pictures.
