• The Odinga sons could not secure employment as there were rumours they had undertaken military and socialism studies in Russia. And despite being among the few holders of a PhD in the early 1970s, Oburu could not get a job in Government, largely because he was an Odinga. He ended up serving as a councillor in Kisumu between 1974 and 1979.
