Are you aware of a rumour that the Deputy Prime Minister Musalia
Mudavadi his energized to seek for ODM Presidential nomination as a
result of two private meetings held 5 days after the International
Criminal Court ruled that four of the Ocampo 6 should stand trial for
crimes against humanity, which sealed William Ruto and Uhuru
Kenyatta’s quest for the Presidency?
While the rumour does not divulge the actual location of the meeting
and the person who initiated it, reliable sources state that those who
attended include: former president Moi, his son Gideon, Uhuru
Kenyatta, William Ruto, Eugene Wamalwa, Chirau Mwakwere, Raphael Tuju,
Charity Ngilu, Shem Ochuodho, George Khaniri, Omingo Magara, Wilfred
Machage, John Michuki, Aden Duale, Fred Kapondi, Naom Shaban, Dr.
Monda, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Nick Salat and Isaac Ruto. Sources also say
that Dr. Sally Kosgey, Samuel Poghisio, Anania Mwaboza, Henry Kosgey,
Julius Nkaisery were invited but declined to attend. The meeting
resolved to support Mudavadi to clinch the presidency and advised him
to put spirited efforts to beat Raila for the ODM nomination. Most of
those who attended expressed that they will be more comfortable of a
Mudavadi Presidency rather than his party boss.
The meeting resolved that in the event Mudavadi does not clinch the
ODM nomination, he should break away and join Kanu where the attendees
resolved to rally behind him and also provide financial resources for
his campaign to beat Raila Odinga. Eugene Wamalwa and Raphael Tuju
were urged to forego their ambitions and back Mudavadi. It wasn’t
however clear whether Saitoti and Kalonzo were invited to the
hurriedly convened meeting or whether the two’s presidential ambitions
even featured in the meeting at all.
At the end, Mudavadi was very categorical and stated that he wanted to
entrench internal democracy in ODM the way he did with other Pentagon
members in the run up to the 2007 elections. He appreciated their
positive gesture to support him for the top seat and promised to
consult his close confidants and family. He said that he will press
forward to clinch the ODM nomination through the democratic process.
It was clear that the alleged meeting’s agenda is to ensure that ODM
is torn a sunder and that Raila’s Presidential ambition is clobbered
by someone within the party.
The meeting brought to the fore thehistorical mistrusts which has characterized the Luo tribe since independence. Who is fooling who in these political manveurs? Who stands to gain or lose if all these rumours are true?
