Recent pronouncements on gay rights by Britain and USA, giving
ultimatums which lean closely toward suggesting that if African
countries are not going to give constitutional recognition to the gay
communities and accord them rights, then there is the ultimate thread
on limitation of aid extensions to Africa.
Intelligently, the west has earmarked a few African countries as
models to be pressurized into institutionalizing gay rights and
thereafter, it will be a sweeping pressure phenomenon throughout
A scheme likely to succeed in light of Africa’s poverty prevalence due
to weak economies and its desperate need to sustain the in-flow of aid
supply from the western world. In essence it is a black-mail coated,
which has a far reaching damage to the values that make Africa
different in identity and its pride to be made obscure. Did you know,
Africa? We will have nothing to show to the world if we are not
Those in the western world, and are genuine moralists envy Africa and
are very worried about the degradation of morals in their communities
and is a major concern. The damage and decay of morals in the western
world requires fixing, unfortunately the prophets of those old good
days are nowhere to be seen.
An effort to make Africa in the same category of moral failure is the
scheme of things by the west. Remember, recognizing your strong values
based on tradition gives courage to face the world with optimism and
Before I go any further, we should be all aware that there should be
no enumerated protection of the gays in the constitution because there
is no historical documented evidence that gays should be protected.
There is no preference or privilege above the historically
marginalized communities and persons.
It is therefore clear that to be gay is a preference and not a natural
accident which needs a constitutional attention. It is not a
willy-nilly disorder, but rather, a preference and a choice.
Incidentally, it is against God’s purpose.
For now I want to give both cultural and Christian perspectives to
this issue, why Kenya and Africa as a whole, should not pass law on
To walk with me, please allow me to direct your mind into an
historical memory lane as a reminiscence to refresh our minds together
and clearly see the dangers of being forced to abandon your
traditional practices and beliefs for the foreign ones. Before the
arrival of the Europeans in Africa, Africa was rich in cultures and
traditions which were special and of very high values.
They were destroyed by the arrival of the Europeans. Those traditional
practices and beliefs would be standing good even in this modern time.
To continue with this wanton destruction of Africa’s traditional
cultures and beliefs by the west is in itself a human rights abuse.
It is important that Africa recognizes her role as a people to be
part and parcel in shaping the world and not just to receive from the
west even that which is not in harmony with traditional practices and
beliefs of her people. Let us have a choice and the west to understand
that no child of Africa should die of hunger or sickness or even miss
school because of gay issue.
Culturally, in Africa this gay issue was never heard of and if it ever
occurred, it was considered an abomination and a taboo. It is just
like a man taking an animal or chicken for sex. Interestingly, the
whole world is against man having sex with animals and not with the
case of gay practices.
May be such men (those who prefer animals), will soon start asking for
their rights and privileges. This is a crazy world!! We wait and see
if that happened. The proliferation of gay culture in Africa has been
due to rich gay tourists from the western world. They come and
influence young poor African males to this strange culture by use of
money as an inducement.
As a Christian, I will refer to the Biblical book of Genesis 19:24, it
says: “Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and
Gomorrah-from the Lord out of the heavens”. As you know men living in
the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in those days preferred to have sex
with other men. It was so rampant that it was a huge concern and
eventually, they displeased God. Ultimately, God had to destroy the
two cities completely. For those who have Bibles, please also read
Romans9:28, 29 and 1Cor.6:9, 10.
In conclusion therefore, to institutionalize gay practices in our
constitution is one way of letting our God to abandon us. It should be
the last thing to do as nation(s) and especially those nations that
fear God. Say no to the west around this time, just as the man of God,
Lot stood firm against the homosexuals, who came, young and old to
demand that he gives them his male guests for sex. He resisted them
and finally, Lot, the man God and his family were spared by God. If
you read Gen.19 through you will agree with me that standing firm will
grant you favor from God.
Remember, you people of Africa that God is in control and not man. To
institutionalize and giving rights to gays through constitutional
protection, means preachers of the word of God will not preach the
word God as it is, for fear of breaking the law.
Where is freedom? Who is going to re-write the Bible? The height of
folly is when the highest authority in any nation displays arrogance
to the living God and if the citizens per-take in that folly, then
there is looming disaster through God’s anger. END
