Shock and grief engulfed residents of Kayole estate in Murang’a town yesterday after the body of a local gospel musician was found abandoned in the area. She is believed to have been raped and murdered by unknown people on her way to church. The body of Louise Wanjiku Waiyego, 32, was found dumped 15 meters from a rental house where she was living.
The Kikuyu vernacular singer is believed to have been raped and greasily murdered by unknown assailants. Neighbours claimed she was attacked on her way to attend morning prayers at a nearby full gospel church. A man heading to work at Kenya farm Nut Company saw Wanjiku’s body and rushed to alert neighbours.
The shocked neighbours, who recognized the deceased, quickly covered the naked body to avoid exposing it to children heading to school, who at the time had started gathering at the scene. Area OCS Alfonse Ngundo said the deceased was hit using a blunt object at the back of the head.
He said the deceased succumbed to death after excessive bleeding and that police suspect she was murdered during the morning hours as fresh blood was still flowing at the time the body was moved to Murang’a district hospital mortuary.
The OCS said nothing was stolen from the artiste as her phone and money were found in her pockets. He said police have not identified the motive behind the killing but have launched investigations to unveil the mystery behind the murder.
However, a close friend to the deceased claimed the musician had been dating three men, one of them a pastor at her church. The mother to the deceased, Nancy Wanjiru almost collapsed when she learnt of the sad news of the murder of her daughter from a relative who informed her.
She said the deceased had called her the previous day at 4pm to tell her that she had problems with paying monthly house rent. “Wanjiku called me yesterday and said she was having problems with the monthly rent arrears and that she feared that the landlord might lock her out,” the deceased’s mother said.
