NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 26 – Former President Daniel arap Moi’s son, Philip, has finally been arrested after he defied court orders to pay his estranged wife Rossana Pluda upkeep amounting to millions of shillings.
Recently in the world of medicine there has been radical recalls of drugs that have caused death instead of treating the diseases. There has also been recalls of medicines that have caused health complications. These medicines were developed to cure, but they have caused pain and increased fear and confusion. Many of these products, however, were developed with the right intentions. Products are developed out of the need to solve an existing deficiency or need.
We have people developing products with the right motives, but due to enormous competition, there is a rush to push the product out to the market. This leads to process elimination and therefore these products lack quality, because some of the steps or processes were skipped, ignored or overlooked, leading to deadly results. Some products have been developed just for the commercial purposes; the label has nothing to do with what is on the bottle’s package. They promise to relieve pain or help lose weight when really everything in the bottle has nothing to do with the ingredients outside the package.
I was just thinking how true this in the church today, how we have been poisoned by messages that have killed our walk with the Lord or killed our hunger for God and the things of God. How the gospel we have preached and that has been preached to us has choked our spiritual breathing, put off our fire and made us be shallow in our walk. Do we need a recall of these messages? Looking at the Gospel of Jesus Christ that has been preached for many years now, I realize how we can present the Gospel sometimes with pure motives and skip some of the process that was needed for us to really hear what the Lord is saying regarding our generation. Just like the world can be guilty of the rush to produce products, in the church we can preach a gospel that looked like God, sounded like God, and had a label full of God’s promises, but lacked the power of God. We have been driven to sell quickly the gospel to our congregations or listeners like the pharmaceutical industry. We have promised a Christ that will heal with no conditions. We have preached what we the people want to hear. We have become man pleasers more than God pleasers. We have packaged the Gospel with a label that has nothing to do with what the word of God says. We skipped the process of discipline, fasting and intense prayer, deep seeking and soul searching. We forgot to mention, the suffering that Paul, the early church and many of the brethren of the years past went through. We forgot to preach what it means to stand for the truth. Some were killed; others were jailed, while some were left to be eaten by beasts for the Gospel. We can easily forget the fact that we have come into the kingdom of God at such time as this by divine appointment.
You and I are not in the cities we are in by accident or by coincidences. We did not go through the challenges we went through just for the sake of it; it was for a reason. I believe that there is a moment that changes everything and it happens when as children of God we get to that point where we evaluate why we have not produced the fruits God has promised we should. What has caused us to believe and preach the half baked messages? When God told Noah to build the ark, he told him the why and the solution. You do not see the mention of the ark before the mention of sin and the punishment. Genesis 6: 5 says, “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth and that, every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”.
The Gospel will not be complete if we try to ignore hell; as Francis Chan puts it, “we cannot not erase hell”. We must preach about hell and heaven, we must preach against sin and the consequences’ of sin and the reward of living a life that is pleasing to God. We have preached about material prosperity ignoring what John 3 says: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (NKJV). This means that our prosperity in all things is dependent on our soul’s prosperity.
God wants you to prosper in your spiritual walk, your emotions, your finances, your job, your health, your relationships, your household and everything, but this is not why he died. He died so you can be saved from going to hell. In the computer world we have applications or patches that are dependent on another patch or software revision. I you tried to install a certain patch that is dependent on another, the application will warn you and refuse to install the patch unless you have installed the dependant patch. Some application will require you to uninstall the previous patch revision or software before you install the new.
Some software’s will demand that you install a certain revision before you can install the latest version. Try to jump from an old version of windows operating system to the most current and you will prove this fact; you will need to install several updates. This reminds me of what Jesus said in Luke 5:37 “And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.” How often do you and I update our spiritual inner man by daily being renewed as Paul says in Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Our spiritual fruitfulness is dependent on how prosperous our souls are. Our souls will only prosper if we feed them with the right spiritual food, putting our flesh in check, and running away from the sin that easily besets us. It includes offering our bodies as living sacrifices unto the Lord, holy and acceptable in his sight. We need to continuously feed our inner man with the pure uncompromised word of God. Do we inquire of the lord and stay current with the prophecies of the time? Do we seek after the eternal things, and purposes, do we erase the true gospel and instead preach another? Why do we not mention that sin is against God, why do we not preach repentance? Noah preached and warned of the coming floods. When is the last time you preached about the coming fire called hell.
If you loved someone to a point that you wanted them to drive good cars and live in good houses, why will your love towards them be so limited about where they will spend eternity. If you really care, then eternity is key compared to the now. As we share the Gospel let us tell people the reason why we need to accept Jesus as Lord; it is because he loves them. However, what if they do not, what is the danger of not accepting Jesus as saviour? They will go to hell. The term going to hell has become just a curse word, with no meaning, we do not even fear hell because we thing it’s just a curse word.
This means we have to accept the whole truth and the whole truth about the word of God. We can longer take that which we think suits us or whatever does not require sacrifice and discipline, but embrace what feels and looks right. Let us flee from teachings that make us at ease in this world; the gospel that promises the now rewards, but ignores the life to come. Christ has made provision for life everlasting; just ask him to help you to be a finished product. Remember this is a process, a journey with him to the destination. See I have learned that the fun part of this life is not so much the destination but the journey, because if am successful in the journey then the destination is not an issue.

The Somalia National Army (SNA), backed by its intelligence and the Police force, have conducted a raid on Sokohola and killed the overall al-Shabaab commander for Gupta, Sokohola, and Huluwai areas.
Critics say the global ‘war on terror’ has legalised a culture of impunity among the country’s police forces.
